About Summer

Hi, I'm Summer and I was born and raised in the upper-midwest my whole life. I'm in my late thirties and have a love for food. I'm definitely not a foodie and I enjoy baking (and eating the baked goods) more than cooking and the savory. But now that I am a wife and a mom to two preschoolers, I handle all meal planning (the family does have input), purchasing and cooking (the husband does help with this) for the household.

I've been doing weekly meal planning since I got married in 2006. It started as the easiest way to do our weekly grocery shopping trip. At the time it was just my husband and myself and often those meals included, meat, a starch and and maybe a veggie. Many times we ended up going out or doing take out. I now cringe at the amount of food we threw away because it went bad and we never got around to eating it. The meal planning looks a little different these days. My resources for new recipes and my confidence for trying and making new things has grown along with our family. Of course a growing family means many different tastes and preferences.

I'm not new to blogging, although my past blogs were mainly about our family and once upon a time, I blogged while baking my way through a dessert recipe book. My vision for this blog is to document our weekly meal plans, and feature some of our favorite recipes. As a family, in 2015 we are working to decrease our monthly food budget. We spend a lot of money on food, and although we still want to eat good food, we want to look for ways to decrease our spending. Our two big goals are to eat out less (including take-out) and increase our meatless meals. I'll be posting about this as we go along.

When I'm not blogging, I'm managing our household which includes my amazing husband (known as Uncas), our two kids, one boy (ED) and a girl (EA) and our beloved mini dachshund Sammy. We live in the Twin Cities and love to be outdoors. I also love watching tv, reading books and food blogs and hanging out with my family and friends. Thank you for stopping by!
